Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's administration is making a concerted effort to balance regional interests, especially in North Karnataka, which traditionally holds significant electoral sway.
Key Representation from North Karnataka
Of the 13 ministers joining the Cabinet, five belong to North Karnataka and one comes from Coastal Karnataka. Specifically, three ministers who hail from the politically influential Lingayat community have been appointed to important positions, reflecting the Congress leadership's strategic effort to maintain strong support among this demographic.
The North Karnataka contingent is headed by MB Patil, a four-term MLA and former Water Resources Minister, who recently handled critical sectors such as Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development. Similarly, Satish Jarkiholi, a prominent Scheduled Tribe leader with extensive experience in the legislative function, adds strong leadership to the Cabinet from Belagavi district.
Eshwar Khandre, a senior Lingayat leader who has served multiple terms as an MLA, brings significant administrative expertise. Dr Sharanprakash Patil is another key figure, having held portfolios such as Medical Education and Skill Development for over two decades.
Coastal Karnataka's Voice
The inclusion of UT Khader, a five-term MLA from Mangalore and a Beary Muslim community representative, ensures Coastal Karnataka is adequately represented. Khader has held portfolios such as Health, Food and Civil Supplies, and Urban Development in previous cabinets.
Together, these appointments underscore the Congress regime's intention to garner support across different regions of Karnataka by ensuring inclusive representation in the Cabinet.
