Highlights

  • Second autopsy conducted by senior doctors from AIIMS Delhi
  • Initial report cited asphyxia due to hanging, but family disputed findings
  • Legal proceedings continue against Twisha's mother-in-law for anticipatory bail
  • Family had previously refused to accept body due to doubts in police investigation

Bhopal, India: The second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma, the former actor-model, was conducted in Bhopal on Sunday. This examination followed a directive from the Madhya Pradesh high court and lasted nearly three hours at AIIMS, Bhopal. The family had initially refused to accept the body due to doubts over the initial police findings.

The preserved body of Twisha Sharma lay unclaimed for nearly 10 days in the mortuary before undergoing a second autopsy by a team of senior doctors from AIIMS, Delhi. The first post-mortem at AIIMS Bhopal noted that the cause of death was 'asphyxia due to antemortem hanging by ligature.' However, the family challenged these findings and sought further verification through additional testing.

'Given the difficulties in transporting Twisha's body for cremation, we decided to perform her last rites in Bhopal,' her father Navnidhi Sharma stated. Family members were present during the identification process, recognizing their loved one despite changes due to preservation over 10 days.

The Legal Battle Continues

Despite this latest development, the legal battle continues. The Madhya Pradesh high court will hear arguments from both the family and state government regarding challenges to an anticipatory bail granted to Twisha's mother-in-law, a retired district judge and primary suspect in the case.

The case against Samarth Singh, her husband and the main accused, has gained considerable attention since his recent arrest while endeavoring to surrender at a court in Jabalpur. He was remanded into police custody for seven days.

'This second autopsy is crucial; we hope it brings us closer to understanding what truly happened,' shared Twisha's brother Harshit Sharma.
