Highlights

- •Several AIADMK legislators have switched to TVK
- •Stakeholders like Dr C Vijayabaskar are waiting to announce their next moves
- •AIADKM's poor assembly election performance leads to internal crisis
Tiruchirappalli, the bustling heart of Tamil Nadu, is set to witness a significant political event on Monday as Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay addresses his first rally since taking office. The visit comes as a response to recent defections and internal strife within the AIADMK party. Vijay's campaign will be marked by a special focus on thanking the voters who supported him during the elections.
Vijay's Visit: A Show of Gratitude and Leadership
Following his inauguration as Chief Minister on May 10, Vijay is scheduled to make an important visit to Tiruchirappalli. This rally serves a dual purpose: expressing gratitude to the voters who chose him in the April elections while also rallying support for the newly-formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party.
Since TVK came into power, several high-profile AIADMK leaders, including four legislators, have switched their allegiance. This sudden shift reflects a larger political crisis within the party following its poor performance in the recent assembly elections where it won only 47 MLAs. Four of those who defected did so barely hours after resigning as MLAs.
Former state minister Dr C Vijayabaskar has tentatively stated he will announce his next course of political action shortly, while retired politician C Ve Shanmugam indicates a willingness to work under Edappadi K Palaniswami's leadership. Meanwhile, Shanmugam's stance remains unclear.
The opposition parties, including AIADMK's allies, have strongly opposed TVK's decision to admit defectors and deemed such moves "unhealthy politics."
During the rally, Vijay is expected to meet with party cadres, attend a thank-you event at St Joseph's college in Tiruchirappalli, and review ongoing projects. This visit also aligns with an internal exercise within TVK where all MLAs are required to personally reconnect with their constituents.
