BENGALURU: As the formation of a new Council of Ministers proceeds, Congress leaders from Kolar district have taken an early, assertive stance. They are demanding three cabinet berths for the district, led by Dinesh Kumar Shivakumar, who is tipped to become Karnataka's next Chief Minister.
Key Player and Demands for Represented Voices
The Kolar Congress, through a letter directed at All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, has sought ministerial berths for prominent leaders:
- S.N. Narayanaswamy under Scheduled Castes (SC) quota.
- K.Y. Nanjegowda under the general category quota.
- Kothur G. Manjunath also representing the general category.
Narayanaswamy, a seasoned politician from Bangarapet assembly seat, claims to have clinched three consecutive victories in 2013, 2018, and 2023. The Congress leaders believe it is essential to give due representation to Kolar's SC (Right) community of over 12 lakh voters spread across the district, Chikkaballapura, and Bengaluru Rural. This move aims at bolstering support for both the party and the socially disadvantaged in this constituency.
Supporters highlight that Nanjegowda and Manjunath have been instrumental in grassroots party building efforts within their respective constituencies. Their dedication, alongside Narayanaswamy's contributions, is expected to fortify the party's position significantly.
The letter was signed by Kolar district MLAs S.N. Narayanaswamy, G. Manjunath, and Nanjegowda, along with notable figures like MLCs Naseer Ahmed and Anil Kumar, former president of the Kolar District Congress Committee K. Chandra Reddy, and Congress leader V. Adinarayana.
