Vijayawada, India — The Telugu Desam (TD) party has made significant strides in promoting gender equality with its decision to reserve 33 per cent of party positions for women. Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish Babu described this as a historic step during an official event marking the occasion. The move sets an example for other political parties and regions, showing that meaningful representation of half the population is possible.
The "Thank You CM – Thank You Lokesh" programme was held at Satish Babu's office in Kakinada on Sunday. The event exemplified women's leadership; female party officials presided over all aspects of organization and proceedings, highlighting their role in shaping the future direction of their party. Sunkara Pavani, spokesperson for TD, opened the official programme alongside other key leaders and participants.
Women's Leadership in Action
The event was notable for its all-female leadership structure, with influential women taking charge from start to finish. Female former MLA Pilli Ananthalakshmi, MLC Karri Padmasri, TD state secretary Vanamadi Sushmita, and Amalapuram parliamentary constituency leader Rajeswari were among those present, each contributing their experience towards the advancement of gender equality policies within the party.
Despite the pending Women's Reservation Bill at the national level, Satish Babu emphasized that TD's proactive stance reflects its commitment to political empowerment. Other attendees included MLAs Nimmakayala Chinarajappa and Jyothula Nehru, as well as several leaders. Following the programme, women participants celebrated their landmark achievement with enthusiasm.
