Hyderabad: Amidst nationwide efforts to uplift women's economic and social status, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced a bold initiative to establish 8,000 Indira Gandhi Stree Shakti Bhavans across Telangana's districts. These centers will serve as vital platforms for women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to enhance training, business planning, and financial management.
Business Expansion: A Priority for Women SHGs
The Chief Minister, in his address at the Secretariat from where he launched the state-wide Women's Week Celebrations, underscored that women SHGs should venture into large-scale enterprises like rice mills, mandal-level warehouses, and logistics parks.
Reaching out to over 50,000 women members through a video conferencing session, Revanth Reddy implored the groups to embrace these opportunities. 'If we can empower one crore women as millionaires by 2034,' he affirmed, 'we will witness stable families and communities thriving in our countryside and cities.' Telangana, with its focus on large-scale business ventures for women through SHGs, is undoubtedly setting a unique model.
The government has pledged to provide up to 100 acres of land for such ventures if needed, aligning with the aim of making women self-reliant and economically robust. Bank linkage loan limits have been increased from Rs.5 lakh to Rs.10 lakh, enabling SHGs to access more capital.
More than just monetary support, the government aims to ensure quality market access for rural products through corporate-style Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars. With these plans, women are being encouraged to participate actively in energy sector ventures such as bus ownership programs and petrol bunk businesses.
