Visakhapatnam, India: Agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has initiated a special survey panel to investigate the rising incidence of kidney diseases in Thotada village of Santabommali mandal. The minister announced this during a door-to-door distribution of NTR Bharosa social security pensions on Monday.
The decision stems from concerns that contaminated drinking water or environmental factors might be responsible for the ailments affecting local residents. Atchannaidu assured that the government plans to address drinking water issues in rural areas, with emphasis on the chief minister's $620 million project aimed at providing safe water to every household in villages across the Tekkali constituency. Among the projects is a already-allocated Rs 100 crore for immediate implementation.
Addressing Past Neglect
Denouncing the previous government's perceived negligence, Atchannaidu highlighted recent achievements under his administration, including:
- A newly constructed road from Kotabommali to Thotada village.
- Rs 7.2 million sanctioned for MGNREGS projects in both Thotada and Balarampuram villages.
Additionally, he shared that Rs 13 billion has been distributed as pensions to over six million beneficiaries across 24 months, underscoring the government's commitment to welfare and development initiatives. Atchannaidu also announced that women soon will be able to receive coupons for up to three LPG cylinders annually without upfront payment.
The minister's proactive measures and detailed investigation into kidney ailments demonstrate the administration's intention to ensure public health is prioritized alongside economic growth in Thotada village.
