Highlights

  • IRCTC offers free travel insurance of up to Rs 50 lakh on all air tickets
  • Bharti AXA and General Insurance Company collaborate on this initiative
  • Insurance includes coverage for deaths and permanent disabilities due to accidents
  • No additional fee is required; a seamless hassle-free travel experience

In a move that has left many travelers envious, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is now offering free travel insurance of up to ₹50 lakh on all flight tickets booked through their official website and mobile app. This initiative from IRCTC ensures that every passenger is covered in the event of any unfortunate accident during travel.

The e-ticketing and catering subsidiary, Bharti AXA, has partnered with General Insurance Company to provide this comprehensive insurance cover. According to IRCTC, passengers booking a flight ticket through their platform are eligible for $50 lakh worth of free travel insurance. This coverage is also available to both domestic and international travelers.

How It Works

The insurance policy comes with several benefits. For instance, in case of an accidental death or total/permanent disability due to an accident, passengers can claim up to Rs 50 lakh under this policy. Additionally, there's a provision for up to Rs 3,000 for the loss of checked-in baggage on domestic flights and Rs 250 (Rs 20,590) for international flights.

IRCTC aims at providing hassle-free travel experiences by eliminating the need for an extra fee. While other popular travel portals such as MakeMyTrip, Yatra, ClearTrip, and Red Bus charge a premium of Rs 200 to Rs 250 for insurance coverage, IRCTC's insurance is completely free. This facility ensures that travelers can enjoy their trips without worrying about unforeseen expenses.

Moreover, passengers who travel by rail can also avail an insurance offer of up to ₹10 lakh with a nominal premium of 49 paise per ticket. While this policy covers death, total disability, and hospitalization expenses for injuries, it also includes transportation costs in the event of a train accident or untoward incident.

Travel enthusiasts can explore breathtaking destinations from India's numerous airports without any worries now that IRCTC is making significant strides towards customer satisfaction. Travelers looking to make their trips more secure and enjoyable can easily book tickets on IRCTC Air, ensuring they are well-covered in both air and rail travel.
