In a substantial effort against wildlife trafficking and illegal arms possession, law enforcement officers in Odisha's Ganjam district recently seized two full-sized leopard skins, two live handmade bombs, and a sword from individuals accused of illegally transporting protected wildlife items and hazardous materials. The operation began on June 6 following intelligence suggesting suspicious activities around the Buratal area under Patrapur block.
The police team deployed in Jarada encountered two suspects fleeing into nearby forest cover when they noticed a police presence. A chase was initiated, but during it, both accused resisted arrest with one allegedly waving a sword to escape capture, leading them to momentarily overpower the officers before being arrested after a brief struggle.
A thorough search yielded a discovery of two gunny bags containing the full-sized leopard skins along with the confiscation of live handmade bombs from Kesaba Jamadar and a sword from Bira Jamadar. Investigations revealed that neither suspect possessed proper authorization to transport or possess such wildlife items, weapons, and explosive substances.
