Surrendering Power: A Brief Transition

Accompanied by key ministers and close aides, Siddaramaiah tendered his resignation at Lok Bhavan, where it was to be handed over to Governor Thawarchand Gehlot during the latter's absence in Indore. Just hours after his departure from office, both chief minister and deputy flew to New Delhi for further discussions regarding cabinet formation.

Sources indicate that Yathindra, Siddaramaiah's son, and Congressman Priyank may hold positions within the new administration. The oath ceremony for Shivakumar is expected on Sunday when he will officially assume office.

Political Shifts and Future Plans

In his resignation speech, Siddaramaiah assured the people of Karnataka that he would focus solely on state matters, including fighting communal forces. He recalled his journey from a humble start as a Taluk Board member in 1978 to becoming an MLA for the first time in 1983 and serving two terms as chief minister.

Siddaramaiah also highlighted his commitment to adhering to constitutional principles, stating that only leaders with widespread support can endure in public life. He expressed gratitude to Congress leaders for providing him opportunities and acknowledged the challenge of serving people during his tenure.

Despite offers from higher command for a Rajya Sabha berth, Siddaramaiah decided voluntarily to step down, emphasizing no pressure had been exerted upon him.
