Recent developments regarding the Hyderabad Metro Rail have sparked a fresh round of political friction. BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has leveled serious allegations against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, claiming they are engaging in coordinated political theater while obscuring a massive financial issue involving assets valued at approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
Allegations of Mismanagement and Asset Misuse
Speaking at a BRS cadre meeting held in Serilingampally, K.T. Rama Rao accused the administration of orchestrating a scheme to transfer roughly 250 acres of land linked to the Hyderabad Metro Rail network to personal connections and family members. He further alleged that the Chief Minister is exerting pressure on L&T Metro Rail officials, forcing them out of the state to streamline the takeover of these significant assets.
Rama Rao also expressed deep concern over the financial burden being placed on the residents of Telangana. He claimed that the state government has signaled a willingness to absorb nearly Rs 14,000 crore in debt belonging to the private operator, L&T. According to Rama Rao, this decision threatens to destabilize the Hyderabad Metro Rail financially, potentially leading to long-term operational distress for the critical infrastructure project.
Stalled Expansion and Infrastructure Concerns
The critique extended to the central government's role in the city's transport infrastructure. Rama Rao questioned the reluctance of the Centre to approve expansion plans originally proposed by the previous BRS government, specifically the route from Lakdikapul to Patancheru. He argued that these bureaucratic delays have hindered essential urban development.
The BRS leader emphasized that the Hyderabad Airport Metro Express project, intended to connect the Financial District to the international airport, remains stalled. He maintained that had the project received timely approvals, it would currently be operational, offering much-needed relief from severe traffic congestion for thousands of daily commuters in the region. The ongoing dispute highlights the growing tension over infrastructure management and the strategic direction of urban transportation projects in Telangana.
