Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former minister T. Harish Rao has launched a sharp critique against the current administration in Telangana. During a meeting held with party workers and local leaders in Achampet, located within the Nagarkurnool district, Harish Rao accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of failing the agricultural community and imposing significant financial strain on the general public through various tax hikes.
Harish Rao Criticizes Telangana Government Policies
The core of the criticism leveled by Harish Rao centers on the alleged neglect of the state's farming sector. He explicitly stated that the current government has failed to meet its financial commitments, noting that the administration currently owes farmers a total of ₹29,350 crore under the Rythu Bharosa scheme. According to the former minister, the Chief Minister has retracted his previous assurances regarding crop bonuses. Furthermore, he highlighted concerns that state-led procurement efforts have been limited, as the government has reportedly stated that only the quantity of grains accepted by the central authorities will be purchased.
Harish Rao warned that these policy decisions will have a severe negative impact on producers of various crops, specifically naming maize, sorghum, soybean, groundnut, and sunflower. He suggested that the difficulties faced by the farming community are poised to intensify following the conclusion of the current Kharif crop season.
Allegations of Economic Mismanagement
In addition to agricultural concerns, the BRS leader accused the Congress government of economic mismanagement, comparing the Chief Minister's fiscal approach to that of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, specifically regarding the imposition of heavy tax burdens on citizens. Harish Rao pointed to recent increases in essential costs and charges, including higher prices for diesel and petrol, rising fertilizer expenses, increased RTA charges, and elevated liquor prices.
The opposition leader further claimed that while the state claims financial constraints regarding agricultural support, the administration has allocated significant funds toward non-essential expenditures. He cited the construction of a guest house valued at ₹100 crore, the organization of large-scale football events, and the publishing of advertisements in other states costing hundreds of crores as examples of misplaced priorities. By speaking out against these government actions, Harish Rao aims to keep political pressure on the Revanth Reddy administration as public discontent grows over these economic challenges.
