Minister for water resources Nimmala Ramanaidu has launched a sharp critique against YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The minister alleges that the previous administration under Jagan Mohan Reddy failed to adequately protect or prioritize the interests of the Kapu community during its tenure.

During a media briefing held in Vijayawada, Nimmala Ramanaidu reflected on the historical context regarding reservations for the Kapu community. He highlighted efforts made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and former chief minister Damodaram Sanjeevaiah, crediting them for implementing supportive measures for the group. According to the minister, reservations for the Kapu community had been established during the British era, were subsequently withdrawn, and then restored under the administration of Damodaram Sanjeevaiah, only to be revoked again by a later government.

Debate Over Kapu Reservations and EWS Quota

The minister further addressed the implementation of the 10 percent Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota introduced by the central government. He asserted that the former Telugu Desam government had purposefully earmarked a five percent reservation specifically for the Kapu community within that EWS framework. However, he accused the succeeding YSRC leadership of actively withdrawing this provision, thereby undermining the community's access to benefits.

Beyond the reservation issue, Nimmala Ramanaidu accused the former chief minister of deliberately attempting to fracture society by inciting divisions along regional, religious, and caste lines for political gain. He further claimed that numerous leaders from the Kapu community within the YSRC party were not protected during the party's time in office, alleging that these individuals faced significant legal and political challenges during that period.

Concluding his remarks, the water resources minister emphasized that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan are currently collaborating closely to execute the coalition government’s policy agenda. He maintained that the YSRC is intentionally targeting both the Deputy Chief Minister and the Kapu community as part of a wider political strategy.
