HYDERABAD: A BJP delegation led by state party president N. Ramchander Rao and MPs, MLAs, and MLCs have launched a field-level 'Rythu Gosa-BJP Bharosa' yatra to tour paddy procurement centers in Telangana. The intention is to highlight the inefficiencies and failures of the Congress government's procurement policies.
The team began its journey from Kulakacharla procurement center in Parigi, where they held direct interactions with distressed farmers. Ramchander Rao alleged that farmers are facing severe hardships due to administrative complacency, citing that heaps of paddy continue to lie unattended at procurement centers causing significant delay in procuring grain.
"Heaps of paddy continue to remain unattended for 10-15 days. Farmers wait several hours just to get weighing or lorries for transportation," Ramchander Rao stated, adding that essential arrangements such as tarpaulins and gunny bags had been neglected by the administration.
Documenting Inefficiencies
Rao claimed that Kisan Morcha's state president had earlier met with both the Chief Secretary and Agriculture Minister, urging them to make advance arrangements. However, alleged failures persisted despite these warnings from BJP leaders. Rao argued that the spontaneous actions taken by authorities now exposed a complete breakdown of procurement by the Congress regime.
Maheshwar Reddy alleged that the current government's approach has been "totally negligent." He contended that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy gives false figures of paddy harvest procurement, with claims of 80% completion compared to actual figures closer to 25-30%. Other issues include systemic failures and rampant exploitation by intermediaries, who are charging extra fees ranging from ₹30-₹50 per gunny bag and up to ₹2-₹3 kg as tare and millers' margins.
The BJP delegation documented these irregularities with the objective of standing firmly with farmers. Rao expressed hope that adequate infrastructure would be provided immediately, ensuring all paddy stocks are procured without further loss to the farming community.
