As the corporate world transitions towards hybrid work, workplace design is moving beyond aesthetics and square footage. This shift is focusing on productivity, wellness, collaboration, and operational efficiency. Arnav Gusain, leader of Rivet—an arm of WeWork India—explains how these changes are reshaping office spaces.

Understanding the Shift: The whole purpose of Rivet was to extend WeWork's vision of the workplace as a platform. 'What we are trying to do is become a one-stop shop for all real estate requirements that a client or corporate might have,' says Gusain. Rivet launches with the operational experience gained from WeWork India's aggressive expansion, delivering nearly 8.5 million square feet of workspace.

Operational Depth: WeWork India's growth required evaluating multiple properties for every space launched. 'We practically open one center every month,' Gusain explains. 'To open one centre, we evaluate about 10 to 15 properties in depth before they become operational.' This insight is now being converted into integrated workspace solutions.

India's design and build segment has been fragmented, with companies dealing separately with consultants, designers, contractors, and project managers. Gusain believes this fragmentation affects transparency and consistency in delivery. 'In the managed office segment, there was a huge gap around transparency and client satisfaction,' he says. Rivet aims to solve these issues by providing end-to-end solutions.

Future of Workspaces: The office needs to be a place employees look forward to coming to, according to Gusain. 'It cannot feel like an effort.' Long commutes and city-wide infrastructure challenges in India have changed how offices are perceived. Organizations need to make the workday more meaningful and productive. Wellness has become critical, translating into better collaboration spaces, comfort, planning, and operational efficiency.

Rivet's focus on human behavior means designing offices that maximize productivity while creating a personal connection. 'Design is subjective because everyone experiences space differently,' says Gusain. 'The challenge is to create comfort, efficiency, and personal connections within the workspace.'
