KOLKATA: In a significant move following the recent West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections, authorities have apprehended Dilip Mondal, an expelled Trinamul Congress (TMC) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), for allegedly threatening BJP workers. On Wednesday, the Special Task Force (STF) accompanied by Odisha Police personnel caught him at a beachside hotel in Puri after receiving reliable information.

Under the Radar: A Week of Hiding

Mondal had been on the run for nearly two weeks, frequently changing his hideouts and reportedly taking shelter under the guise of an aide's identity at a palatial residence in South 24 Parganas. His last known location was in Puri, where he checked into the Blue Lily hotel before reaching for another venue in Beliapada.

According to sources, the police found Mondal already preparing to leave when they arrived early in the morning. Just a week ago, this accused figure had reached Odisha to avoid capture after his arrest warrant was issued by West Bengal Police following a video revealing threats made against BJP leaders during a victory rally.

In addition to the MLA's detention, his son Arghya was also apprehended on May 18 for possession of firearms in Bakhhali. This marks the first case brought under the new regime post-change in power.

The STF is currently escorting Mondal back to Bengal on a transit remand, while the investigation continues into the incident where his threats were allegedly recorded on video and shared widely across social media platforms.
