The Odisha government has officially initiated a rigorous medical screening process for 680 teachers who have requested transfers based on grounds of terminal illness. This administrative move is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency and verify the authenticity of medical claims submitted by educators seeking special consideration for job relocations.
The verification process will be managed by the Odisha State Standing Medical Board located at Koraput. The examinations are set to take place at the Clinical Lecture Theatre of SLN Medical College and Hospital. The Directorate of Elementary Education has issued clear directives to ensure that all applicants, whether seeking intra-district or inter-district transfers due to serious health issues—affecting the teachers themselves, their spouses, or their children—undergo a mandatory physical evaluation.
Schedule and Requirements for Medical Verification
The authorities have established a strict timeline for the medical screening of the applicants across several districts. According to the current schedule, 125 teachers from Rayagada are slated for examination on July 2, followed by 179 candidates from Nabarangpur on July 3, and 125 from Malkangiri on July 4. Koraput district has the highest number of applicants, with 219 teachers scheduled for July 6 and an additional 32 candidates from various categories expected to appear on July 7.
All participants are required to arrive at the venue by 10:00 AM on their designated dates. To facilitate a smooth and efficient review, applicants must present their original online transfer applications, valid identity proofs for both the applicant and the patient, and all relevant medical records, including diagnostic reports and treatment documentation. Officials will collect copies of these materials for formal verification purposes.
The Medical Board will conduct thorough clinical assessments to confirm the medical status of the patients and ensure their cases align with the regulatory provisions for terminal illness transfers. Furthermore, each teacher is required to complete a formal application form and submit a passport-sized photograph as part of the procedure.
The Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer of Koraput has emphasized the urgency of this initiative. District Education Officers have been instructed to communicate the details to all eligible applicants and ensure full attendance. They have also been tasked with deputing supporting staff to assist the medical board with the necessary documentation and processing during the scheduled dates to ensure the entire verification exercise proceeds without delay.
