In a firm message regarding monsoon preparedness in Hyderabad, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has warned government officials that negligence in managing rain-related challenges will result in severe disciplinary action. During a high-level review session, the Chief Minister expressed strong dissatisfaction with the administrative response to heavy rainfall that impacted the city earlier this month.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy emphasized that the city’s administration must maintain a proactive stance. He noted that despite advance alerts issued on June 1, the response to the heavy downpours experienced on June 9 was insufficient. The monsoon preparedness review highlighted concerns regarding traffic congestion, particularly in areas like Cyberabad, and the overall lack of coordination among essential departments.
Ensuring Accountability and Public Service
To address these lapses, the Chief Minister has mandated that officials, from the city police commissioner down to ground-level staff, must be actively present in the field during inclement weather. Revanth Reddy explicitly stated that public inconvenience is unacceptable. He has directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP C.V. Anand to conduct a thorough analysis of the recent administrative failures and initiate appropriate action against those responsible. Departments including municipal administration, HYDRAA, the HMWS&SB, and the traffic police are required to work in seamless coordination to ensure urban mobility remains unaffected by rain.
Furthermore, directives have been issued to the electricity department to ensure rapid response to power disruptions, including the clearing of fallen trees and the potential use of mobile transformers. The HMWS&SB has been instructed to prioritize public health by conducting regular water quality tests and stockpiling necessary medications to prevent the outbreak of seasonal diseases.
Infrastructure and Agricultural Oversight
Beyond urban management, Revanth Reddy addressed critical infrastructure and agricultural concerns. Irrigation officials have been instructed to implement robust safety measures at all project sites. A clear warning was issued to engineers against leaving their posts without proper authorization from senior authorities. Additionally, Finance Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania has been ordered to immediately release funds required for the maintenance and repair of project gates.
For the agricultural sector, the Chief Minister has focused on the seamless distribution of essential supplies like seeds and urea. The administration plans to utilize 'Rythu Vedikas' as primary hubs for distribution. Local agriculture officers have been assigned direct responsibility for monitoring urea stocks, with revenue department personnel instructed to support the overall process to ensure farmers face no difficulties during the current season. The review meeting was attended by senior representatives from various state departments, including irrigation, health, police, and meteorological services.
