A team of wildlife experts from Bengaluru is en route to Rampachodavaram in Polavaram district to assist local foresters in capturing a tiger responsible for the slaying of 14 cattle. The carnage occurred when the predator targeted calves tied at Gangampalem village in Devipatnam mandal early Wednesday morning.
Expanding the Carnage
The tiger has been spotted killing nine cattle near Kondalingamparthi and Vathangi, both areas of Rajavommangi range on May 27. The attack appears to be part of a broader strategy for territory establishment in fringe villages adjacent to Papikonda national park.
Foresters mention that the predator primarily preys on cattle during late nights or early mornings while resting on hillocks by day. Local authorities have mobilized more than 200 forest personnel along with specialized teams like tranquilization, rapid rescue, and VHF antenna units to catch the tiger.
Rajamahendravaram chief conservator of forests, T Jyothi, appealed to villagers to stay safe by not venturing out alone during vulnerable hours. This has prompted local communities to seek shelter in rehabilitation centers overnight before returning home for daylight activities.
