In a significant move to strengthen law and order, police forces recently carried out a massive operation targeting habitual offenders across the Ballari Range. The specialized drive, which took place on a Monday morning, involved the search of 381 residences to track individuals with criminal records and deter potential illegal activities.
According to the Ballari Range Inspector General of Police, Dr. PS Harsha, the coordinated effort spanned from 6 am to 8 am. The initiative covered several key districts, including Ballari, Vijayanagara, Raichur, and Koppal. To execute this plan, 116 dedicated police teams were deployed across the region to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Enhanced Surveillance on Rowdy-Sheeters
The primary goal of this intensive rowdy-sheeters crackdown was to maintain strict vigilance over known offenders. Authorities focused on monitoring their current occupations, general movements, sources of income, and any potential links to unlawful behavior, particularly through digital platforms. This proactive approach aims to suppress criminal activity by keeping a close watch on those previously identified by the police.
During the searches conducted within the Ballari district, officers verified 103 individuals, with only one person found to be missing from their residence. The search operations led to the recovery of several items of interest, including an air gun, various stamp papers, and promissory notes found at a residence near the APMC police station. These materials are currently undergoing forensic examination to determine if further legal proceedings are necessary.
Following the search phase of the operation, the identified rowdy-sheeters were gathered at the District Armed Reserve grounds in Ballari city for a formal verification parade. This serves as a reminder of the ongoing police presence and the commitment to maintaining public safety in the region.
Administrative Reforms and Future Security Measures
The authorities have indicated that this intense monitoring of rowdy-sheeters will continue as a recurring strategy. Recent reforms have also been implemented to simplify and speed up the process of issuing externment orders. Previously, these procedures were notoriously slow, but the power to initiate such actions has now been delegated directly to the local police station level.
To date, 190 proposals for externment have been submitted across the four districts, with 79 cases successfully issued. The regional breakdown includes 35 proposals from Ballari, 40 from Raichur, 9 from Vijayanagara, and 5 from Koppal. Additionally, 48 individuals are currently incarcerated across the range. Local SP Suman D. Pennekar was present during the briefing to address the updates regarding these security enforcement initiatives.
