Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has formally approached Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with a strategic proposal to advance key infrastructure and defense initiatives within the state. During a high-level meeting held at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of developing the Adilabad Airport and expediting a significant defense project in Mahabubnagar district.
Enhancing the Adilabad Airport Infrastructure
The Adilabad Airport, currently under the development of the Indian Air Force (IAF), has been identified by the state government as a high-priority project. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy assured the Union Minister that the state would provide full cooperation regarding land acquisition and the essential transfer of utilities. This proactive stance highlights the government's commitment to supporting national integrity and defense requirements through improved regional infrastructure.
Beyond standard operations, the proposal includes a request to establish comprehensive support facilities at the location. The Chief Minister specifically requested support for large-scale cargo capabilities, as well as Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. These facilities would be integrated alongside the Indian Air Force terminal and the proposed civil aviation terminal to ensure passenger convenience. Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that global airlines are currently seeking new locations for hangar operations due to shifting geopolitical conditions in Central Asia, making the Adilabad Airport an ideal candidate for such specialized services.
Defense Development in Devarakadra
In addition to aviation infrastructure, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged Rajnath Singh to accelerate the approval process for a crucial defense facility in Devarakadra, located in the Mahabubnagar district. This area has been specifically selected for the establishment of a DRDO / DRDL project, which is expected to bolster the region's defense research and industrial footprint.
During the discussions, the Chief Minister also expressed his appreciation to the Union Minister for the recent transfer of defense land, which was essential for the construction of the Gandhi Sarovar project. The meeting concluded with a focus on collaborative efforts between the state and central government to ensure these projects progress efficiently. Accompanying the Chief Minister were several key officials, including R&B Special Secretary Vikas Raj, Principal Secretary KS Sreenivasa Raju, Secretary Manik Raj, and Special Secretary (Coordination) Advait Kumar Singh, all of whom are aligned in supporting these critical development goals for Telangana.
