The state government of Andhra Pradesh has officially announced a significant Markapuram infrastructure push, signaling a new phase of regional development. Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy shared details regarding the substantial financial allocation and strategic projects planned to transform the region into a key economic and horticultural hub.
To accelerate ongoing development, the government has authorized the release of ₹905 crore dedicated to completing the long-awaited Veligonda Project. This initiative is considered a cornerstone of the administration's current development agenda. Furthermore, the local administration is actively exploring opportunities to foster industrial growth and attract investments to the area to support long-term economic stability.
Strategic Infrastructure and Regional Growth Initiatives
A major highlight of this Markapuram infrastructure push is the approval from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop the Srisailam Ghat Road into a modern four-lane corridor. This project is expected to vastly improve regional connectivity and boost trade potential. In addition to transport infrastructure, the state has sanctioned ₹16.84 crore specifically for temple development projects, alongside an allocation of ₹1.10 crore to support daily rituals and essential offerings across 116 local temples.
During an event at the Market Yard in Markapuram commemorating two years of NDA governance, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar emphasized that high-level officials, including Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, are personally overseeing the progress of critical projects to ensure they are completed on schedule. The district collector, M. Vijaya Sunitha, expressed strong confidence that the Veligonda Project will reach completion by the end of July, bringing much-needed relief and resource access to the local community.
Political representatives are also playing an active role in this development drive. Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy has committed an additional ₹5 crore for various district-level development works and noted that feasibility studies are underway to establish a local airport. Meanwhile, MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy stated that the formal creation of the district has already addressed a major demand from residents, and the current administration remains focused on attracting industrial players to ensure the region's rapid expansion.
Beyond these large-scale construction efforts, the government continues to integrate welfare schemes into its growth strategy. Residents are seeing the impact of initiatives such as NTR Bharosa, Jaladhara, and Stree Shakti, which are running parallel to these physical infrastructure developments. By combining social welfare with large-scale industrial and transport investments, the state government aims to create a sustainable roadmap for the future of the district.
