Tragic Update: Pet Dog of Missing Toddler Found Dead in Kakinada
The pet dog of a missing toddler named Gnaneswari has died of dehydration in Kakinada district. Authorities, including the NDRF and local police, are conducting a fresh, intensive search for the child after nine days of unsuccessful efforts to trace her whereabouts.

A tragic update has emerged in the search for a missing toddler in Kakinada, as the pet dog that accompanied the child has died of dehydration. The missing girl case involves two-and-a-half-year-old Gnaneswari, who was last seen on June 6 after wandering away from her residence in the Ch. Agraharam hamlet of Tuni Rural mandal.
The young girl had reportedly left her home in search of her father, who was working at a nearby 50-acre oil palm plantation. Her loyal pet dog followed her when she first went missing. While the animal briefly returned on June 9, the toddler remains missing, sparking a massive search operation by local authorities. In a bid to locate the child, police had equipped the canine with a GPS collar sourced from Hyderabad, hoping it would lead them to the girl. Tragically, the dog passed away on Saturday.
Investigation Into Missing Girl Case and Dog Death
Veterinary officials conducted an autopsy of the dog at S. Annavaram on Sunday. The results confirmed that dehydration was the primary cause of death. To eliminate any possibility of foul play, such as poisoning, the remains were forwarded to a forensic laboratory in Visakhapatnam for further analysis. Police have made the missing girl case a top priority for the district, with Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav overseeing the investigation.
The post-mortem examination also noted a minor injury on the animal. SP G. Bindu Madhav explained that this was likely sustained when a local resident threw a stone at the dog after it barked at them while the child and the pet were still together. As the investigation into the missing girl case continues, officials are intensifying their efforts to find Gnaneswari.
The search mission has seen significant involvement from law enforcement, with approximately 500 personnel deployed over the past nine days. Following directives from Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, specialized units, including the NDRF and HANUMAN teams, have arrived at Ch. Agraharam to conduct a fresh, comprehensive search of the area. Despite the exhaustive efforts of the police teams, no concrete clues regarding the toddler's current whereabouts have been recovered so far. Authorities remain hopeful that the renewed search strategy will lead to a breakthrough in this distressing disappearance.
