Educational institutions across Telangana officially reopened their doors on Monday following a lengthy 52-day summer vacation, marking the commencement of the 2026-27 academic session. A notable highlight of this year's reopening is the implementation of a comprehensive breakfast scheme, specifically designed to support 12,437 children across 45 government-run schools in the Hyderabad district.
To ensure a smooth start to the new academic year, the state government has facilitated the distribution of essential learning materials, including updated textbooks, notebooks, new uniforms, and dedicated student kits. This systematic approach aims to provide students with the necessary resources from the very first day. The official reopening date was adjusted by the state administration, moving from the previously scheduled June 12, to allow for better coordination. In order to compensate for this scheduling shift, the government has designated July 11, which falls on a second Saturday, as a mandatory working day.
Breakfast Scheme and Student Support Initiatives
The state-led breakfast scheme represents a significant effort to enhance student well-being and encourage attendance, with a primary focus on reducing dropout rates. The initiative is being spearheaded by the Manna Trust, which is responsible for the daily logistics of providing nutritious meals. The menu has been curated to offer variety and nutrition, featuring options such as millet idli, sambar, puri with mixed vegetable kurma, bonda with chutney, upma with chutney, and dosa. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar is set to inaugurate this program at the Raj Bhavan Government School, emphasizing the government's commitment to child welfare.
Furthermore, district education officer Yadaiah confirmed that textbooks and study materials are being distributed to students across 672 government schools in Hyderabad. Recognizing the importance of accessible transportation, the TGSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) has actively stepped up its services. Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy has issued directives to restore previously active school bus routes and align transit schedules with classroom timings. The corporation is prioritizing the operation of an adequate number of buses to minimize waiting times, particularly for students traveling from rural areas to reach their educational institutions.
These coordinated efforts reflect a broader strategy by the Telangana state government to stabilize the school environment and improve the overall quality of education for young learners across the region.
