The state government has officially introduced a new free breakfast scheme for students, ensuring that those attending government junior colleges can begin their academic day with proper nutrition. This initiative, launched on Monday, runs alongside the existing mid-day meal program to provide consistent support for learners.

On the opening day of the program, students were served a nutritious breakfast menu consisting of Idli with Sambar and Puri with mixed vegetable curry at 8:30 am. The mid-day meal, provided at 1:30 pm, featured a balanced selection including Bagara, Dalcha, Sambar, and eggs. This coordinated effort aims to improve the daily well-being of the student population.

Expanding Access to Nutritional Support

The implementation of the free breakfast scheme covers 33 colleges across the state, benefiting approximately 14,425 students. Specifically in Hyderabad, the breakfast rollout includes 11 colleges with 3,882 students participating. Furthermore, the mid-day meal program has been extended to 43 colleges in total, serving a combined strength of 35,563 students, with 30 of these institutions located within the city.

College administrations proactively informed the student body about these meal arrangements through text notifications. Many students expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that it provides healthy nourishment and alleviates the necessity of bringing packed lunches from home daily. One student, Aishwarya, mentioned that the program is a great relief for families, especially on days when students might run late for their classes. Another student, Fayeeza, praised the taste of the food while suggesting that improvements to dining infrastructure would enhance the experience by avoiding food spills in classrooms.

Faculty members have strongly supported the free breakfast scheme, emphasizing that adequate nutrition is a vital component for adolescent development and academic focus.
