The government of Telangana is actively pursuing a comprehensive industrial growth strategy to bolster the state's economic landscape. During a recent visit to New Delhi, the state's IT and Industries Minister, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, met with the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal. The discussions centered on securing federal support for several major projects that are essential to the state's long-term developmental blueprint, known as the Telangana Rising Vision 2047.
Driving Infrastructure and Industrial Development
A primary objective of these high-level discussions was to obtain approval and necessary funding for initiatives aimed at strengthening the manufacturing, defense, logistics, and export sectors. Sridhar Babu emphasized the importance of federal backing to successfully implement these regional projects, which are expected to serve as cornerstones for industrial growth throughout the state.
Among the key proposals is the development of 15 to 20 plug-and-play industrial parks under the Bhavya Scheme – Phase 1. Furthermore, the state has proposed an Aero Defence Corridor to attract significant investment in the aerospace sector and enhance local supply chains. Telangana has also expressed its willingness to host a National Design Centre in Hyderabad, aimed at fostering innovation and design-led manufacturing, alongside plans to establish two mega leather parks to strengthen the regional footwear industry.
Logistics and Agricultural Export Initiatives
The state is also making strides to enhance its logistics and export capabilities. Notably, the Hyundai Group has unveiled plans to establish a Global Innovation and R&D Centre in the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City, with a proposed investment of ₹8,500 crore. Minister Sridhar Babu has actively sought central assistance to develop the essential logistics infrastructure for this site.
Additionally, the government is focusing on a ₹2,050 crore multi-modal logistics park in Manoharabad, Medak district, currently being developed in collaboration with National Highways Logistics Management Limited. To further aid exporters, funds were requested for an irradiation facility at Koheda, Rangareddy district, designed to assist the agricultural sector in meeting international standards. Addressing broader economic concerns, the Minister called for the allocation of total urea production from Ramagundam Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited to Telangana and urged the central government to restore the import duty on crude palm oil to 44 percent to shield local farmers from global price fluctuations.
