Nellore, India - On the two-year anniversary of the YSR Congress Party (YSRC) losing power in Andhra Pradesh's assembly elections in 2024, MLA Sarvepalli Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy launched a pointed critique against party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at the TD district office in Nellore.
Restoration of Democracy
Somireddy, marking the day as pivotal in Andhra Pradesh's political history, stated that voters had significantly reduced YSRC's seat count from 153 to just 11 during these elections. This decrease symbolized a return to democratic norms, according to him. Somireddy accused the previous administration of being characterised by political vendettas and various irregularities.
In contrast, Somireddy praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's coalition government for its welfare-driven initiatives, which he argued had bolstered public confidence in Andhra Pradesh. He noted that these measures included increased pensions, the 'Tallikavandanam' scheme, free LPG cylinders for women, enhanced support for fishermen, and provision of free travel for women and persons with disabilities via APSRTC buses.
Furthermore, Somireddy highlighted that over 16,000 teacher positions had been filled in recent years, addressing long-standing vacancies. He criticized YSR Congress leadership for persistently attributing the party's electoral defeat to political rivals without conducting a genuine examination of their actions and policies.
The MLA's address underlined both the challenges faced by the coalition government and its successes, making it clear that this period would be remembered as one of significant change in Andhra Pradesh's political landscape.
