The onset of April has brought a dramatic change in weather patterns across northern India, with multiple states facing heavy storms and rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns that the Western Disturbance phenomenon continues to impact several regions, leading to potential hazards for residents and farmers alike.
Weather Alert: Storms and Rainfall Across Northern States
In Delhi-NCR, scattered thunderstorms and rain are expected to persist into April 8. A warning is issued for strong gusty winds, ranging from 30 to 50 kilometers per hour. Farmers, particularly those with wheat crops in areas like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Punjab, face significant damage due to the prolonged wet weather conditions.
Uttar Pradesh (UP) continues to see severe storm activity, causing hailstorms that have damaged farmers' fields in districts such as Kanpur, Lucknow, and Unnao. The Western Disturbance is driving persistent rains in these areas for another three days. On April 7 and 8, IMD forecasts storms and rainfall in Western UP with the likelihood of squalls in major cities like Lucknow.
Bihar experiences a similar scenario. Storms and rain are expected, coupled with potential hailstorms over two days starting from April 8. Multiple districts in Bihar, including Patna and Rajgir, are under alert for intense weather conditions that could last until April 10.
Uttarakhand also expects light to moderate rainfall, compounded by strong winds. A IMD announcement warns of continued storm activity, lightning strikes, and further gusty winds. Hailstorms might occur in Maldevta regions, threatening local agriculture and infrastructure.
In Rajasthan, heavy rainfall and dust storms are expected in Jaisalmer, Phalodi, and Jodhpur, with wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kilometers per hour. Additional alerts for thunderstorms suggest that these regions prepare for significant storm activity.
