Highlights

  • Maruti Suzuki announces significant price hikes
  • New Electric SUV, e-Vitara, sees 2,205 units sold in its first month
  • Victoris model reaches sales milestone of 50,000 units
  • Maruti focusing on increasing EV charging facility capacity

Maruti Suzuki, India's leading car manufacturer, is gearing up for a significant price hike in its vehicle portfolio. This move reflects the company's response to escalating raw material costs and global supply chain pressures.

The Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, Partho Banerjee, confirmed that a price increase has become inevitable. While precise details are yet to be announced, such hikes follow similar steps taken by other car brands like Tata Motors and JSW MG Motor.

Why Maruti Prices Are Rising

Tripwire factors include high steel and aluminum pricing, which have substantially impacted the company's margins. These costs have forced Maruti to pass on some of these expenses onto end customers. Additionally, logistics and shipping costs have surged, influencing overall prices.

Maruti's Electric SUVs Gain Momentum

The recent entry of Maruti's first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, has seen remarkable success in the market. With over 2,205 units sold in its first month and more than 2,000 customer inquiries daily, this vehicle is proving popular among premium customers.

Moreover, the new Victoris model has rapidly garnered traction, reaching sales milestones of 50,000 units. This achievement bolsters Maruti's stronghold in the mid-size segment, pushing its market share to 18% from 12.8%. The company currently produces up to 2,000 electric vehicles a month and is planning further capacity expansions.

Focus on Small Car Segment

The demand for small cars like hatchbacks has surged among middle-class and wealthy families, resulting in waiting periods of over a month. Despite the anticipated price hike, buyers remain optimistic about Maruti's continued dominance in this segment.

In fiscal year 2025-26, Maruti achieved another milestone by selling more than 2 million vehicles for the third consecutive year. Domestic sales hit an all-time high of 169,428 units during this period. The company is also developing a dedicated charging network exclusively for its EV customers.

Maruti's strategy involves strategic home charger installations to ensure convenience and speed for customers using electric vehicles. This move underscores the company's commitment to providing seamless experiences to its electric vehicle owners.
