Bengaluru, January 10 - The resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from the post of Chief Minister has been officially accepted by Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot following his return from Madhya Pradesh. The resignation was formally tendered on Thursday to Special Secretary to the Governor Prabhu Shankar.

Speaking through a notification, the Governor confirmed that Siddaramaiah's resignation would be effective immediately but assured he would continue in office until alternative arrangements could be made. His decision to step down came following a directive from the Congress party high command, describing his resignatory statement as 'voluntary.'

Deputy Chief Minister Set for New Role

D.K. Shivakumar has been designated as the interim replacement in line to succeed Siddaramaiah and complete the remaining two-year term of office. This transition underscores a seamless transfer within the ruling party structure, expected to maintain political continuity despite leadership changes.

Siddaramaiah's tenure at the helm spanned three years before his unexpected resignation. Party leader Allamprabhu Patil expressed that no official communication had been received regarding a CLP meeting or selection of a new leader for this transitional period. These developments have left observers speculating on future political implications within Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah has already departed Bengaluru to engage with central leaders in New Delhi to finalize an incoming cabinet, discuss swearing-in ceremonies and determine the deputy chief ministerial portfolio for the upcoming council of ministers.
