Congress MP Alleges Widespread Irregularities in Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls
Congress MP Jothimani alleges massive irregularities in Tamil Nadu Assembly poll candidate selection and constituency allocation, raising concerns over transparency and favoritism within the party.

Highlights
- •Massive irregularities in candidate selection for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections
- •Surveys conducted as a pretext for large-scale corruption
- •Senior party members and genuine prospects were sidelined
- •Committee led by Girish Chodankar needs proper investigation
Chennai: Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Jothimani has raised serious questions about the integrity of candidate selection and constituency allocation for the upcoming April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Under her claims, Jothimani stated that large-scale corruption and favoritism characterized the selection process within the party.
"Surveys conducted under the guise of transparency allegedly resulted in extensive corruption,"
Corruption Allegations and Candidate Selection
Jothimani highlighted that senior party members with long-standing commitments to the party were sidelined. Meanwhile, new entrants or candidates with minimal electoral prospects received opportunities after targeted negotiations around constituency allocation.
"After being given these opportunities, they either resigned from the party or became inactive immediately after elections," she said, questioning those responsible for these irregularities and demanding proper investigation by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
"The committee headed by Girish Chodankar, in charge of Tamil Nadu, has to be investigated. Office bearers of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee do not have jurisdiction over such inquiries," Jothimani stated.
Jothimani emphasized the importance of a fair and transparent process for upcoming elections: "If we are to stand as strong opposition force politically, grassroots workers and district presidents should be respected. Only then can party confidence be restored."
Her findings come amidst similar allegations from many state assemblies.
