Police in Hyderabad recently seized 172 cattle that were allegedly being transported illegally across several police station limits in the city. The animals were inspected and monitored by special teams comprising municipal officials from Madannapet, Nagole, Santosh Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Saroornagar, LB Nagar, Boinpally, and Abdullapurmet.
According to officials, 13 of the rescued animals were shifted to goshalas (cattle homes), where they will be cared for. Meanwhile, a total of 103 cattle were moved to the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation's Animal Protection Centre in Fathullaguda. Among them, there were three cows, 52 bulls, 15 buffaloes, and 33 oxen.
During this operation, veterinary deputy director Srinivas Reddy conducted a thorough health check-up of the rescued animals. Veterinary officer Sanjeev Reddy attended to any unwell cattle that required immediate medical care. All seized cattle were provided with fodder and water for their sustenance as they underwent observation.
The move comes amid growing concerns over illegal animal transportation, a practice believed to contribute to poor health conditions and unethical treatment of farm animals. Authorities have highlighted that these special inspections aim at ensuring the well-being of all livestock and curbing illegal trafficking of cattle.
Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, a key player in this initiative, has been vigilant in protecting local animal rights and health standards by actively involving municipal officials with expertise in animal welfare. The corporation will continue to monitor the health status and overall condition of the rescued animals at their shelter.
The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation's efforts in animal protection are pivotal not only for maintaining humane standards but also for ensuring public safety regarding zoonotic diseases and food quality, emphasizing the need for stricter transportation regulations.
The seized animals will remain under observation to ensure their well-being until a resolution is reached. Local authorities have expressed confidence that such operations will help in reducing illegal activities and promoting ethical practices of animal care and transport within the region.
