Andhra Pradesh: Mandatory Field Visits Announced for All Officials by CM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed all government officials to conduct mandatory field visits to improve governance. The initiative, supported by a 360-degree performance evaluation and improved grievance tracking, aims to bridge gaps between administration and public needs for efficient service delivery.

In a significant move to overhaul administrative transparency and public service efficiency, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu, has declared that mandatory field visits are now compulsory for all government officials. This directive aims to bridge the gap between administrative offices and ground-level realities, ultimately strengthening the public's trust in the governing machinery.

Improving Governance Through Field Visits

During a performance evaluation review conducted via the Real Time Governance Society, the Chief Minister emphasized that the entire administrative structure must maintain heightened vigilance to eliminate potential lapses. The push for mandatory field visits is designed to ensure that officials actively identify shortcomings in local governance and implement immediate corrective measures, thereby streamlining the delivery of public services to citizens.

According to the new directive, every official is expected to conduct mandatory field visits starting this month, with strict enforcement protocols scheduled to commence in the following month. The instruction mandates that officials spend three full days each week engaged in direct field activities. Furthermore, District Collectors are specifically tasked with visiting every assembly constituency four times, while constituency nodal officers must conduct four visits to their assigned mandals every month.

To ensure accountability, the Chief Minister has warned that all employees and officials will undergo a rigorous 360-degree performance evaluation. Beyond these field operations, Chandrababu Naidu has called for reforms in the Endowments Department, urging a focus on enhancing services for temple devotees. He also encouraged the adoption of global administrative best practices, such as those modeled in Singapore, to improve local departmental performance.

Infrastructure and Technological Integration

Addressing the state’s infrastructure challenges, the administration noted that 11,600 potholes had been identified across municipalities, with 79 per cent of the necessary repairs already completed. Officials have been directed to accelerate the rehabilitation of remaining roads, particularly those facilitating connectivity between rural and urban sectors, through better coordination between the roads and municipal administration departments.

Emphasizing the transformative potential of technology, the government is expanding its data-driven governance initiatives. Following the success of the Commercial Taxes Department in integrating with Google, the Chief Minister has ordered other departments to pursue similar collaborations. Additionally, the administration is prioritizing the Public Grievance Redressal System by mandating a new tracking mechanism. This system will empower citizens to monitor the live status of their petitions, ensuring transparency and accountability in the resolution process. Chief Secretary Sai Prasad and other senior departmental leaders were present to discuss the implementation of these strategic administrative updates.
