Hyderabad: At a press conference on Sunday, SC and ST welfare minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar from the ruling party accused Chief Minister K.T. Rama Rao's government of neglecting Gurukul institutions during its tenure. He challenged Rama Rao to provide evidence that any new Gurukul school was built under the previous administration.

Building Schools and Addressing Concerns

Adluri stated that welfare schools were operating from rented premises lacking adequate facilities, despite announcements of 104 Gurukul buildings not being completed. He highlighted the state government's initiative to construct 119 integrated residential educational institutions over 16 acres each across the state with an estimated cost of ₹200 crore.

The minister also defended the Common Procurement System, saying it had saved ₹163.53 crore by reducing public expenditure from ₹806.66 crore to ₹643.13 crore. He emphasized that this would ensure quality and uniformity in supply of essential items such as uniforms, school bags, shoes, bedsheets, and utensils.

"Why does saving ₹163.53 crore bother KTR? Should the government protect contractors' interests or students' welfare?" he asked, explicitly rejecting any allegations of corruption and non-signing of agreements under his watch.

Adluri also talked about improving meals with a 99.12% pass rate in Class X examinations for SC students. Six candidates are reported to have cleared the UPSC Civil Services examination, while 35 qualified in Group-I, 27 in Group-II and 236 secured state government jobs through SC Study Circles.

Adluri highlighted that diet charges had risen after a 16-year gap due to the recommendations of the National Institute of Nutrition which now planned meals to ensure around 2,200 calories and 40-50 grams of protein daily for students. He also mentioned that pending bills from the previous administration has been cleared with monthly payments starting on the first week of each month.

The comprehensive state initiative aims at providing better educational facilities while saving public money and ensuring quality supplies for all institutions across the state.
