Hyderabad, India — In a landmark decision by the XII Additional Sessions Judge in Nampally, a 22-year-old individual has been sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined Rs.10,000 for his involvement in a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO). The court proceedings were initiated at Amberpet police station following the complaint by the victim's mother.
The incident involved an 15-year-old girl who was initially befriended and conversed via phone with the accused. Concerns arose when her parents noticed their daughter's growing association, leading to a conversation where it was discovered that the girl had secretly left home on July 16, 2022.
Accusation and Investigation
The male suspect, known as V Pavan, abducted the girl under the pretense of a marriage proposal. Utilizing this ruse, he convinced her to come over to his place where sexual intercourse was committed against her will. The following day, the victim's mother approached the Amberpet police station, who then transferred the case to Bharosa for further investigation.
Bharosa provided comprehensive counseling and support to both the victim and her family, ensuring that their emotional well-being was tended to through regular follow-ups. This support was crucial in recovering from such a traumatic experience, highlighting the commitment towards victims of such offenses.
HQS V.C Sajjanar, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, praised all involved parties for their efforts in achieving justice and ensuring that perpetrator faced legal consequences.
