The Maharashtra Assembly has taken a decisive step regarding the tragic death of a Pune realtor, Ketan Agrawal. On Thursday, the presiding officer, Raju Khare, issued a formal directive to the state government, mandating the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct an exhaustive probe into the murder case. This development follows intense pressure from legislative members to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation into the Pune realtor's murder revealed a chilling sequence of events. Police reports state that 26-year-old Ketan Agrawal was allegedly pushed into a gorge near Lohagad Fort on June 18 by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her lover, Chetan Chaudhary. Both suspects, aged 20 and 22 respectively, have been taken into custody. The victim and Siya Goyal were reportedly preparing for their upcoming wedding, which was planned for November in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

During the assembly session, NCP member Sunil Shelke brought the case to the floor, advocating for a rigorous legal pursuit. He urged the authorities to examine the role of Goyal's family, alleging they were aware of her hidden relationship. Shelke praised the initial work of the Pune rural police, who successfully uncovered that the death was a homicide rather than the accidental fall originally suggested to the victim's grieving family. He emphasized that the collection of witness statements and call records has been pivotal in building the case.

The push for an SIT probe is driven by a strong desire for justice. Legislators are calling for the matter to be fast-tracked in court to ensure a swift resolution. Sunil Shelke stressed that the state government must maintain close oversight of the proceedings to ensure accountability. During the discussion, Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Bhaskar Jadhav questioned the enforceability of the presiding officer's directive, referencing past instances where such legislative rulings were bypassed by executive actions. In response, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar noted the procedural differences between the legislative council and the assembly, highlighting the complexity of implementing such directives.
