VinFast, the electric vehicle (EV) giant from Vietnam, is ready to make waves in the Indian market. The company's expansion into two-wheelers follows its impressive success with premium EV cars and now aims to capture the hearts of middle-class families with three powerful scooters: Evo, Feliz, and Viper.
According to industry reports, these electric scooters will be assembled at VinFast's plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This move is expected to challenge established brands like Ola and Ather, making them more competitive with a strong local presence. The scooters are anticipated to fall within three distinct price segments, catering to different consumer budgets.
Powerful Line-Up
The VinFast Evo stands out as the company's most affordable option, potentially priced between ₹80,000 and ₹100,000. Built for classic retro aesthetics combined with a powerful performance and long-range capabilities, this scooter will rival Bajaj Chetak and Ather Rizta. The 2.4 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery powers a hub-mounted motor, offering a commendable range of around 165 km on a single charge.
The mid-range VinFast Feliz is expected to carry a premium look with its sleek design. It features a more substantial 3 kWh battery and a 2.8 kW motor. With robust performance, even on steep inclines, the Feliz provides an excellent riding experience in challenging Indian road conditions. Anticipated prices range from ₹95,000 to ₹105,000.
The upper echelon of VinFast's electric scooter range is reserved for the powerful VinFast Viper. Estimated at ₹1.55 lakh to ₹1.65 lakh, this model boasts a hefty 4.8 kWh battery and a peak power motor. A top speed between 70-80 km/h makes it an ideal companion for longer commutes.
Rumors also suggest that VinFast may launch a 'battery subscription' plan, potentially making the scooters even more accessible to Indian consumers, who commonly factor battery costs in their budgets.
Made in India Promise
VinFast has made it clear that they aim not only to sell but also manufacture these products through comprehensive kits at their state-of-the-art plant in Thoothukudi. This move is expected to bring significant cost reductions and better local service for customers.
In response to India's varied climate, VinFast has equipped all models with advanced safety features such as anti-theft alarms, Geo-fencing, smart key systems, and remote tracking. The digital TFT instrument console improves convenience, offering turn-by-turn navigation and call alerts directly on the screen.
The Viper, in particular, is designed for long-distance travel with a battery that can maintain over 150 km of range per charge, ensuring reliability across varied terrains. VinFast has also integrated climate-resilient technology into these scooters to enhance safety and durability under extreme conditions.
