Pune, India— The state of Maharashtra has made a significant stride towards enhancing its position as a global engineering hub by signing a $400 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aggreko India. This agreement, signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, is set to kick-start an ambitious initiative that will establish a comprehensive manufacturing center in Pune's Fulgaon district.
The multi-year project is poised to create numerous employment opportunities, potentially generating over 1,000 direct jobs. Aggreko India specializes in energy and temperature control solutions, utilizing the facility to develop advanced systems aimed at improving regional infrastructure and cutting carbon emissions. The company's commitment showcases a strategic approach that aligns with the state government's efforts to meet climate action goals and strengthen the manufacturing sector.
Innovation Hub: Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized Pune's growing prominence as a hub for global capability centers (GCCs).
"The state would extend full cooperation through the departments of industry, energy, labour, and mining to streamline the investment process and ensure an optimal operational environment for the company," Mr. Fadnavis said.
This project is particularly significant as it will serve as Aggreko's largest engineering and manufacturing hub outside of Scotland. The state government has committed to providing necessary administrative assistance, including regulatory clearances and incentives, to facilitate a swift implementation process. Additionally, the facility aims to integrate local small, micro, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) into Aggreko's international supply chain.
The initiative holds tremendous potential for the region by not only driving economic growth but also promoting sustainable development. It promises to significantly boost the local supply chain, providing MSMEs with a crucial pathway to engage with global markets.
