In a major operation against the illicit drug trade, authorities have successfully destroyed over 20,000 kg of ganja in the state of Andhra Pradesh. This significant enforcement action marks a continued effort by local law enforcement to curb the circulation of narcotics throughout the region. The destruction process took place at the Coastal Waste Management Plant, located in Parawada, within the Anakapalli district.
Extensive Drug Seizure Destruction in Andhra Pradesh
During the event held on Thursday, officials confirmed that a total of 20,876 kg of ganja and 23 kg of hashish oil were incinerated. These substances had been confiscated across 490 separate cases involving five distinct districts under the Visakhapatnam Range. The operation was overseen by high-ranking officials, including Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, Visakhapatnam Range IG Gopinath Jatti, and Anakapalli SP Tuhin Sinha.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Vangalapudi Anitha reiterated the state's zero-tolerance stance toward narcotics. She highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the government has launched an aggressive campaign to eliminate both the illegal cultivation of cannabis and the distribution networks associated with drug trafficking. A key component of this strategy involves the implementation of the EAGLE system, which has been specifically designed to enhance surveillance and enforcement capabilities.
Impact of Enhanced Narcotics Enforcement
The state's efforts have yielded measurable results, particularly in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district, where local authorities have effectively suppressed ganja cultivation. The government has also been coordinating with neighboring regions to manage cross-border trafficking, noting that the Odisha police have adopted several recommendations provided by the local EAGLE team to improve interception efforts. Beyond traditional enforcement, the state is focusing on community awareness through initiatives like the 53-day Abhyudaya Cycle Yatra and various anti-drug programs under the Chaitanyam and Sankalpam banners.
