The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has launched a significant HPV vaccination drive, providing free immunizations to 200 female students at its Allied Health Sciences College. Held this past Tuesday, the initiative was bolstered by the Digumarthi Foundation and underscores a proactive approach to protecting young women against virus-related health risks.
Understanding the Importance of HPV Vaccination
The human papillomavirus (HPV) is clinically linked to the development of various cancers, including cervical, anal, and throat cancers, as well as genital warts. By facilitating access to this essential vaccine, the NIMS initiative aims to lower long-term health risks for students. The program was formally inaugurated by the NIMS dean, Dr. Chandrasekhar, who lauded the ongoing commitment of the Digumarthi Foundation, specifically noting the contributions of Dr. Raghunath Rao and Dr. Neela toward advanced cancer prevention strategies.
Health guidelines provided during the event clarify the dosage requirements based on age. Individuals up to 20 years old are advised to receive a single dose, while those older than 20 should complete a two-dose regimen, ideally before marriage, to ensure optimal protection.
Academic and Administrative Updates in Hyderabad
In parallel developments within Hyderabad, the first day of the TGTET-June-2026 examination saw a 72.99% attendance rate. Out of 29,194 candidates, 21,311 appeared for Paper I across 41 centers. The rigorous computer-based testing process is scheduled to continue on June 17, expanding to cover 16 districts. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has strictly emphasized reporting times, noting that late arrivals will face disqualification from the exam.
Furthermore, labor concerns have emerged in the education sector as the Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF), led by state president Chava Ravi and general secretary A. Venkat, has formally requested the cancellation of recent transfer orders for Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) special officers in the Jangaon district. The union alleges that the District Education Officer (DEO) incorrectly mandated transfer options as a condition for contract renewal, a practice they claim has not been adopted in any other district and has caused significant distress among contract staff.
