In a proactive initiative to promote women's health awareness, a Free Breast Cancer Screening Camp was recently conducted in Hyderabad. The event, hosted at Mahavir Bhavan within the Digambar Jain Temple in Aghapura, saw participation from over 100 women who gathered for essential health evaluations.
The outreach program was a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Digambar Jain Social Group and Shri Digambar Jain Sanstha, in partnership with MNJ Cancer Hospital. The event commenced at 10:00 AM, inaugurated by chief guest Dr. V.S. Sai Sankalp Naidu, a specialist in radiation oncology from MNJ Cancer Hospital, alongside guest of honor Dr. Sweta Agarwal, a gynecologist from Southern Gem Hospital.
Importance of Early Breast Cancer Screening
During the event, Dr. V.S. Sai Sankalp Naidu addressed the attendees, emphasizing the critical link between sedentary lifestyle choices and rising health risks, including various forms of cancer. He warned that factors such as decreased physical activity, over-reliance on smartphones, and poor dietary habits contribute significantly to modern health challenges. He underscored that cancer can affect individuals across all age groups and demographics.
The medical expert highlighted that vigilance is essential for early detection. He urged participants to seek professional medical advice immediately upon noticing warning signs such as unexplained lumps, unusual bleeding, or sudden changes in body tissue. Dr. Sai Sankalp Naidu noted that while genetic factors play a role—detectable through BRCA genetic blood tests—the primary advantage of routine screening is the ability to identify cancer at Stage 1. Early intervention, he stated, can boost potential cure rates to as high as 99 percent.
Focus on Preventive Healthcare
Reinforcing the proactive approach to wellness, Dr. Sweta Agarwal encouraged women to prioritize their physical health through consistent annual check-ups. She suggested a practical reminder system: women should schedule their yearly screenings during their birth month to ensure regularity. Her message remained clear: “Prevention is better than Cure.”
The event proceedings were managed by Rajesh Patni, with cultural elements presented by Gunmala Kala, Pramila Patni, and Kalpana Jain. Key addresses were also delivered by Suresh Kala, Vinod Baj, Vinay Gangwal, and Sumer Tholia. The organizing committee expressed their gratitude to the team from MNJ Cancer Hospital, volunteers, and the community for the successful execution of the Free Breast Cancer Screening Camp. This initiative reflects a growing commitment to community-based health awareness and the necessity of early diagnosis in saving lives.
