The central government is on the verge of launching a groundbreaking initiative that promises to revolutionize travel between New Delhi and Rishikesh. The project, known as the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), aims to reduce travel time from Delhi-Ghaziabad to Rishikesh significantly—from around 3 hours currently to just 2.25 to 3 hours once fully operational.

According to a report by The Tribune, a high-level meeting between Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar focused on expanding the rapid rail network under the Namo Bharat Corridor. This corridor currently connects Delhi to Meerut in about 55-60 minutes at a speed of 160 km/h, operating from 6 am to 10 pm.

The proposed plan is ambitiously designed to extend this rail service further. The Namo Bharat train will continue its journey via Modipuram (Meerut) and intersect National Highway 58 (NH-58), forming a strategic link across western Uttar Pradesh and directly entering the Devbhoomi region of Uttarakhand.

Railway Stations Along the Line

The initial phase includes stations such as Daurala, Sakauti, Khatauli, and Purkaji near the border between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The plan intends to extend this corridor through Roorkee, reaching Jwalapur in Haridwar, and ultimately connecting with Rishikesh.

This development will benefit commuters greatly by providing a faster and more efficient transport option. Additionally, it is anticipated that the expansion of the Rapid Rail network will significantly boost the economies of Uttarakhand and Western Uttar Pradesh, offering a dependable alternative to highways often prone to heavy traffic during peak tourist seasons like Kumbh Mela.

The project's potential to reduce congestion on major highways and provide timely travel options is expected to transform the overall experience for both locals and tourists. The new rail network will serve as an economic catalyst by enhancing access to key industrial, agricultural, and tourism hubs in the region.
