The National Agro Foundation (NAF) has officially launched a major initiative, supported by a fresh grant from the Walmart Foundation, aimed at empowering 12,500 smallholder farmers across Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This strategic project focuses on strengthening 10 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to bolster regional agriculture, improve climate resilience, and foster long-term economic prosperity.

By targeting these key agricultural regions, the collaboration intends to move beyond traditional farming methods. The initiative prioritizes sustainable agricultural practices and seeks to enhance market accessibility, ensuring that farmers can achieve better price realization for their produce. A significant emphasis is placed on women farmers, positioning them at the center of this drive toward sustainable rural development.

Strengthening Agricultural Sustainability Through Strategic Empowerment

The project, officially titled “Empowering 12,500 Farmers belonging to Selected 10 FPOs of Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh for Sustainable Economic Development and Climate Resilience,” is designed to transform FPOs into robust, self-sustaining institutions. Dr. M. R. Ramasubramaniyan, Chief Executive Officer of the National Agro Foundation, highlighted that this project is a landmark step. He noted that by combining sustainable production with improved value chains and collective action, the initiative aims to significantly enhance income levels for thousands of small-scale producers.

As the project integrates into the broader agricultural landscape, it leverages technology to maximize operational efficiency. The National Agro Foundation plans to utilize its multi-module KANCHI Digital platforms to streamline governance, financial management, and daily business operations for the involved FPOs. By introducing data-driven decision-making and real-time market intelligence, the program helps transition farmers from basic producers to active market entrepreneurs.

Nishant Gupta, Social & Environmental Impact Advisor to Walmart.Org, emphasized that FPOs serve as essential engines for rural economic growth when provided with the right tools and connections. This partnership is committed to building local institutions that can serve the farming community for years to come. By fostering an ecosystem of well-governed, market-integrated institutions, the National Agro Foundation and the Walmart Foundation aim to drive inclusive rural transformation in Andhra Pradesh that is both replicable and sustainable.
