With the heat expected to peak significantly in New Delhi, the onset of March brings a change to the weather in different parts of India. While some areas face unbearable heat, others experience a much-needed cooling effect from rain. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised caution with thunderstorms and lightning warnings being issued for specific states.
According to the IMD, residents of these states will be experiencing heavy rain coupled with thunderstorms and lightning in the coming days. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Kerala, Mahe, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Jammu and Kashmir have received these alerts. The IMDC is expecting winds of 25 to 30 kilometers per hour during the rain events.
The rainfall will not only dampen the heat but also impact the temperature in Uttar Pradesh, causing them to rely on electric fans to maintain comfortable temperatures. In Uttar Pradesh, people will have to deal with nights of almost freezing temperatures, a stark contrast to the daytime highs. The IMD has also issued an alert for states like Himachal Pradesh, where the cold will be more pronounced.
Northwestern states like Uttar Pradesh are experiencing temperatures above normal, with Holi weather expected to be slightly warmer. However, the monsoon is expected to have a significant impact on temperatures, pushing them back close to normal levels. The IMD has forecasted a gradual increase in temperature after 24 hours and a chance of a slight breeze. In the western parts of Uttar Pradesh, the weather will be mostly clear with occasional sunny spells. The mountainous regions in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Kashmir will see some snowfall and a drop in temperatures.
