Kakinada, India - In a significant development in the case involving Ananta Satya Udaya Bhaskara Rao alias Anantha Babu, a member of the AP State Legislative Council (MLC), the Special Judge for cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Principal Sessions Judge at Rajamahendravaram, L. Venkateswara Rao, declined to grant bail on Thursday.

Background and Charge

On May 23, 2022, Sarpavaram police arrested Anantha Babu for allegedly killing his former driver Veedhi Subrahmanyam, a Dalit youth. Babu had previously secured bail from the Supreme Court under specific conditions but was accused of non-compliance.

Moving the bail petition, M. Ravi Kumar, Babu's counsel, alleged that there were discrepancies in charges filed by Sarpavaram police and contended that Babu had no real connection to the case. However, the special public prosecutor, Muppalla Subba Rao, argued against granting bail due to past violations of bail conditions.

Judicial Ruling

In his analysis, Judge Venkateswara Rao observed that there were no grounds for issuing a bail. This decision marks the second failure in Babu's bid to secure pre-trial liberty and further exacerbates an ongoing legal saga.

Babu had strictly complied with all conditions set by the Special Court on December 12, 2022, as per reports. Despite his adherence, the judges deemed it inappropriate to grant bail in light of Babu's past behavior and ongoing trial proceedings.

While the decision could impact Babu's legal defense strategy, the judge's refusal to overturn previous rulings underscores the stringent evaluation methods employed by judicial bodies during trials under sensitive legislation.
