Authorities in Hyderabad have launched a robust monsoon safety drive to manage urban infrastructure and traffic challenges during the upcoming rainy season. Recent high-level meetings involving the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate have finalized several strategic measures to ensure public safety and minimize flooding risks across the city.
Strategic Measures for Monsoon Preparedness
A primary focus of the monsoon safety drive involves strict enforcement of rainwater harvesting standards. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar confirmed that property owners failing to install mandatory rainwater harvesting pits will face penalties. According to guidelines from the HMWS&SB, these pits are required for structures on plots measuring 300 square yards and above, with strong recommendations in place for plots exceeding 200 square yards.
To address the frequent traffic congestion in the region, officials are planning to implement staggered office timings for IT companies during adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, there is a push to increase employee bus and shuttle services to reduce reliance on individual car travel. The Cyberabad police, under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. M.
