Vijayawada, India – Vijayawada witnessed a significant milestone when Andhra Pradesh welcomed its first Google AI lab. The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Vadlamudi campus of Vignan's University in Guntur district by Navisha Prabhakar, regional head (Education) for Google Cloud.
The inauguration marks a pivotal moment in the region's technological advancement and educational landscape. The lab, created through a collaboration between the Department of Advanced Computer Science and Engineering and Gemini Enterprise for Education, aims to empower students, researchers, and faculty members with cutting-edge AI knowledge and capabilities.
Transformative Technologies
In her remarks, Navisha highlighted how artificial intelligence (AI) is driving innovations across various fields such as fintech, healthcare, robotics, engineering, automation, and quantum computing. She encouraged students to focus on innovation and real-world problem-solving, emphasizing the need for a strong foundation in AI.
Google Cloud plans to support Vignan's University through research collaborations, industry partnerships, and hands-on learning initiatives. This assistance is expected to turn out more globally competitive technology creators, providing practical exposure to advanced AI platforms like Generative AI and Agentic AI utilized by leading IT companies.
B. Mallesu, CEO of Henotic Group, a Google partner organization, welcomed the initiative, stating that Vignan will be the first university in the state with a Google AI Lab. Plans include setting up multiple Centres of Excellence across various disciplines including engineering, medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, and management.
Vignan Educational Institutions chairman Dr. Lavu Rathaiah underscored the lab's importance as a center for innovation, problem-solving, and potential in fields like agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, and the blue economy. These innovations are expected to catalyze industry demands and position students better for future challenges.
Dr. Meghana Koorapati, CEO of Vignan's University, aims to turn its campus into an AI hub that produces professionals skilled in advanced AI. She said, 'Our goal is to transform ourselves into a true AI center and educate our community effectively.'
