The incident, which has drawn attention to visa compliance and foreign national residency, unfolded after an autorickshaw driver, identified as Appala Raju of PM Palem, filed a formal complaint of assault against the group.

According to reports from the PM Palem police, the individuals had been residing at a local guest house for several days prior to the incident. Initial investigations revealed that the women had established contact with the driver through a digital ride-hailing application. The subsequent police inquiry sought to clarify the legal status of the foreign nationals in India.

Visa Status and Residency Investigation

During the verification process, law enforcement officers discovered inconsistencies regarding the immigration documentation held by the Ugandan women. Findings indicated that the four women were residing in the country under varied visa categories: one possessed a business visa, two were holding medical visas, and the fourth had been staying on a student visa that had expired approximately four years ago. It was further noted that the group had previously lived in Delhi and Punjab before their relocation to the coastal city of Visakhapatnam.

Police officials confirmed that the women were only able to provide photocopies of their passports and relevant visa documents during the initial questioning. The original travel documents were reportedly kept at their previous residence in New Delhi. In response to these findings, the PM Palem police have coordinated with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad and various national intelligence agencies to conduct a thorough background check.

Current Status of the Detainees

As the investigation into the alleged assault continues, authorities have emphasized that there is currently no evidence linking the individuals to any criminal conspiracies or anti-national activities. To ensure their welfare while legal and immigration procedures are processed, the four women have been moved to a state-managed women's residential facility located in Arilova.
