The personnel in question—five from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Air Force (IAF)—lost their lives in May 2025. Their deaths occurred in the line of duty during Operation Sindoor, a strategic initiative launched following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. Although their names have since been inscribed at the National War Memorial, Khera argued that the delay in public recognition was a deliberate attempt to withhold the truth from the nation.
The opposition party leader emphasized that such actions contradict the administration’s stated commitment to nationalism. Officials asserted that critics have selectively quoted the speech to falsely suggest that the minister claimed no casualties occurred during the operation.
