The Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO) has announced an ambitious infrastructure expansion plan to bolster the state's electrical grid. By December 2026, the utility provider aims to commission 24 major power projects, representing a total investment of ₹3,507 crore. This initiative is designed to significantly strengthen the regional energy infrastructure and ensure a steady, reliable electricity supply across agricultural, industrial, and domestic sectors.

During a review of current transmission projects held at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada, K. Vijayanand, special chief secretary, urged officials to prioritize the swift execution of these ongoing works. As the special CS to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Vijayanand underscored the government's firm commitment to delivering uninterrupted power. He noted that the state's rising energy demand necessitates the rapid development of a modern transmission network, specifically through 400 kV, 220 kV, and 132 kV projects.

Expanding Grid Capacity Across Andhra Pradesh

The state has already achieved notable milestones in this sector, having successfully commissioned three 400 kV substations, eight 220 kV substations, and 21 substations with 132 kV capacity. These strategic developments have successfully added 1,465 MVA of transformation capacity and 571 circuit kilometres of new transmission lines to the grid, marking a significant step forward in enhancing operational efficiency.

APTRANSCO is currently overseeing the execution of 68 additional transmission projects valued at ₹5,279 crore. Upon completion, these infrastructure developments are projected to add 15,224.50 MVA of transformation capacity and 1,828 circuit kilometres of transmission lines. Furthermore, plans for 29 new transmission projects are underway, with tenders already released, targeting an additional 4,520 MVA capacity and 700 circuit kilometres of network expansion. The utility is also preparing to invite tenders for another 72 projects within the next three months to further streamline the system.

The upcoming 24 projects scheduled for completion by the end of the year include vital substations and systems across various districts, including Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Nandyala, Konaseema, Markapuram, Sri Sathya Sai, Nellore, Kurnool, and Eluru. Notable projects in this phase include the 400/220 kV Gudivada substation, the 400/132 kV Ainavilli substation, and the 400/220 kV GIS Atchutapuram facility.

These strategic upgrades are expected to drastically improve grid stability, minimize transmission losses, and serve as a cornerstone for the state's future industrial and economic trajectory. By focusing on these infrastructure enhancements, the state aims to create a highly robust, modern, and future-ready power transmission network that can effectively meet the needs of all consumers.
